Dementia Capable Care of Adults with Intellectual Disabilities and Dementia

Kathleen M. Bishop, Ph.D. has more than 50 years of experience in the intellectual and developmental disabilities field, including more than 30 years focused on aging, dementia, and intellectual disability. Retired from the University of Rochester and the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD), Dr. Bishop has been a longtime leader in advancing dementia-capable supports for adults with IDD. She co-chaired the development of the NTG’s evidence-informed national curriculum on intellectual disabilities and dementia and has helped train professionals across the country in recognizing and responding to the changing needs of adults with IDD as they age. She is also a published author in the field, including work on dementia-related health advocacy and the implementation and evaluation of dementia-capable care training.
