'Mom advocates for daughter living with Down syndrome and Alzheimer’s'

Paula Gann has advocated for her daughter, ever since Kyle was born with Down syndrome. Now that Kyle has developed Alzheimer’s disease, Paula has come out of retirement to ensure that other families have resources to help them in this new journey. Paula volunteers for the Alzheimer’s Association, co-facilitating a telephone support group for caregivers of people living with Down syndrome and Alzheimer’s.   Read more...

Dr. Rick Rader appointed to National Council on Disability

Dr. Rick Rader, director of the Habilitation Center at the Orange Grove Center in Chattanooga Tennessee, has been appointed to the National Council on Disability — an independent federal agency that advises the President, Congress and other federal institutions on disability policies, programs and practices. The National Council on Disability is known for recommending and drafting the first version of the bill that would ultimately become the landmark Americans with Disabilities Act, which became law in 1990.   Read more...

Jadene Ransdell shares her caregiving journey

Jadene Ransdell, who is the Aging and Caregiving Initiative's Senior Advisor for the National Down Syndrome Society, was honored for helping jump start donations by NDSS members and others to help support the Initiative.  Her story of being a lifelong caregiver for her son Matthew illustrates the journeys that many caregivers experience.
